Frances Jean Frost Grisham, age 79 of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 3, 2010. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Survived by her husband of 62 years, Clifford W. Grisham; daughters, Debbie Cash and Laura Parker; granddaughters, Tara Cash and Melissa Karnes and husband Tony; great granddaughters, Illiana and Nora Karnes; several extended family members. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8 pm in the Halls Chapel of Mynatt Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Copeland and Rev. David Hutchison officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at 10:45am at Greenwood Cemetery for interment at 11am. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, 4131 East Emory Road; Knoxville, TN 37938.

What a wonderful Youth Sunday we had! On Sunday, Nov. 15th, 2009, the youth group from our church took charge of all leadership positions. Everything from teaching classes, leading the singing, to bringing the message, they did a fantastic job! See some pictures below from the morning service.

On Saturday, November 7th, a group of 10 Christian men came together for Highland's first ever, Coffee & Christ Fellowship! What a great time we shared together! Bro. William started things off with a devotion, followed up by Bro. Byron discussing topics relevant to today's Christian man and ending with a roundtable discussion concerning issues facing Christian men today. Coffee & Doughnuts were served. JONES, ROY CLAYTON - Age 80, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ Monday, September 28, 2009. Member of North Knoxville Baptist Church. Roy was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and best friend. Preceded in death by father, Edward Jones; mother, Ella Mae Bunch; step-father, Burr Bunch; sisters Pauline Jones and Juanita Spickard; brothers, Lloyd, Claude, and Troy Jones. Survived by his wife Dolly; son and daughter-in-law Roy, Jr. and Heather. He was blessed with one grandson Kevin Jones and his wife Jenny, as well as two beautiful great-grandchildren, Alex and Lauren Jones. He is also survived by sister, Virgie Day and husband, Ralph; brother, Kenneth Bunch and wife, Gwen. In addition, he leaves beloved in-laws Bill and Shirley Mynatt, Polly Buckner and Gertrude Jones, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Roy loved his family and nearly everyone he met. He was a natural salesman and used that gift to develop special friendships throughout his life. Among those friendships were wonderful neighbors who have treated Roy and Dolly like family. The family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Mancebo, Dr. Eric Nicely and the staff of St. Mary's Hospital for their excellent care. Our love and appreciation is also extended to our friends at Highland Baptist Church for their expressions of care and concern. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 - 8 pm at Lynnhurst Funeral Home on Adair Dr. with funeral services to follow with Rev. Guy Milam and Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Thank You Doug & Amanda Claypool - What a wonderful service we had with Doug and Amanda Claypool, missionaries to Sao Tome and Principe, Africa. Pastor Doug started off by presenting

a slideshow with pictures from their mission field. After that, the Claypool family blessed us with 2 songs and then Pastor Doug brought a wonderful message from John 3:5-7: "Ye Must Be Born Again."

Garry and Pam Tyler - Missionaries to Brazil

We would like to invite everyone to come out this Sunday, July 19th, at 6:00 PM, to hear Garry and Pam Tyler as they present their ministry. The Tyler's were approved as Baptist International Missions, Inc. missionaries to Brazil in October 1974. They have started several churches and a Bible institute. Garry preaches on the radio for 30 minutes each weeknight, and Pam teaches Bible and sign language in the school for the deaf. You'll want to make sure to come out and be a part of this service.

Madgett, Robert W. Sr. (Bob) age 84 of Corryton, TN, went to his eternal home Friday, May 15, 2009 to be with his Heavenly Father, gone for joy, peace and rest through eternal ages. Bob was born in Mascot, TN and moved to Corryton in 1927. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his brother William Madgett in 1929, his father, William Maurice Madgett, his mother, Margarte Little Madgett and his grandson, Michael D. Stocks. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Laura Weaver Madgett, three children, Barbara J. Tsakiris and husband Leo, Lenoir City, TN, Robert W. Madgett, Jr. and wife Kathy of Nashville, TN and David K. Madgett and wife Diane of Luttrell, TN. Grandson Larry D. Stocks and great-granddaughter, Sarah Stocks Richards (Josh); Granddaughter Charity Helvie (Scott) of Memphis, TN and 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Alex. Bob loved life and his family to the fullest extent. Don’t weep because I’m gone. Just be prepared to meet me on Heaven’s shore for I will be there to welcome you home, for I come to know my Heavenly Father, August 21, 1936. Bob was a WWII veteran, served duty in France, Germany and Austria. Bob spent 27 years at C.M. McClung Hardware Co. before its closing in January 1970 and then University of TN a few years before retiring in 1987. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 P.M. On Sunday, May 10th, at 6:00 pm, we will be hosting the Southern Gospel quartet, Cross 4 Crowns. These are 4 Godly men that exalt the name of Christ through Southern gospel music. We pray that God will richly bless this time of worship.

This will be a special Mother's day evening of worship and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a great gift to give your mother for Mother's day.

Refreshments will be served in the fellowship building after the service. There is no charge to attend this special time of worship. A love offering will be taken.

We are planning a trip to Captain’s Galley restaurant in Dandridge, TN on May 16^th, for a time of fellowship and supper. We will meet at the church at 5:00 PM and travel to: Captain's Galley 522 Patriot Dr Dandridge, TN 37725 (865) 397-9387. Prices range from $10.00 - $15.00 a plate depending on what you order. Reservations are required, so if you would like to go, please sign up on the sheet in the church vestibule.

Our annual church picnic is May 30th, 2009, at Cove Lake State Park. We have reserved shelter #1.

Vacation Bible School will be held June 8th - 12th from 6:30-8:45 each night. Sunday night, June 7th, immediately following our regular worship service, we will have a VBS kickoff celebration in the church fellowship building. Everyone is welcome to come. Family commencement night service will be on the the 12th.

We are proud to welcome Dylan Turner as the newest member at Highland Baptist church. Dylan was baptized and received into the church on Sunday, April 26th, 2009, during our morning worship service. Welcome Dylan!

Last night we hosted the gospel/bluegrass group, Rocky Flatts, at our church. What a great bunch of talented guys! As I was moving the altar furniture off of the stage around 4:45, the guys started walking in. Dustin, Shaun, Jeff, Jason, and Rusty, each one carrying an instrument of some kind. DOCKERY, MARGARET - age 83 of Knoxville died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the family home. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Clyde Dockery and sister, Ada Long. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Janice Dockery; grandson, Paul Dockery and wife, Jennifer, all of Dunlap, TN; sister, Edna Watts; special friends, Joe and Charlotte McCollough, all of Knoxville; nieces and nephews. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday at Stevens Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Memorial Park for a 10 a.m. committal service and entombment. An Evening With Jerry Butler

Come out and join us as we host Bluegrass-Gospel recording artist, Jerry Butler. This event will take place on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. during our regular evening worship service. Not only are these fine young men faithful church members, they are also seniors on the Hall's High Wrestling Team. This marked the team's 3rd straight District 3 Championship! For the past 72 years, the Chuck Wagon Gang has continued to be one of the most popular and cherished gospel groups in the world. Today's group still stands by the tradition of singing the old gospel songs, the old time way, just the way Dad Carter taught.

Anna Mae Booker Crudgington - age 99 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Born September 9, 1909 in Knox County of Joseph and Fannie Luttrell; she was the longest living daughter of seven girls. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. A very hard working and independent lady who was retired from Knox Manufacturing Company, she continued driving until the age of 92 and enjoyed making crafts until the sweet age of 97. Preceded in death by her husbands David B. Booker and Frank Crudgington; sons Herbert E. Booker and Carl Richard (Dick) Booker; sisters Agnes Shipe, Mary Lou Mathews, Cecil Ridenour, Marguerite Stalling, Stella Hackle, Bessie Treece. She is survived by daughter Betty Ann Shipe; grandchildren, Rick Pohl of Los Vegas, Cheri Sullivan and Diana James both of Winchester, VA; great granddaughter Kristy Sullivan; great grandson Kevin Sullivan of Winchester, VA; niece Pat Ensor of Knoxville; nephews Joe Shipe of Oliver Springs and Ken Treece of Loudon; several great nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 7 pm in the Halls Chapel of Mynatt Funeral Home with Rev. David Hutchison and Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. ANNA MAE STALLINGS -age 79 of Mascot passed away Saturday at her home with her family by her side. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Taught Sunday School for many years at New Beverly Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Theresa Diane Stallings. Survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Stallings; daughter, Kathy Staley; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Edna Stallings and Danny and Vivian Stallings; 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; sister, Georgia Jones; several nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Life service 7:00 pm Tuesday at gentry-Griffey Chapel, Rev. Eddie Sawyer and Rev. Greg Williamson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside service. Family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

John H. Keith age 70, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday May 3, 2008 at Baptist Hospital. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Survived by wife, Maude N. Keith. Read complete obituary at Mynattfh.net.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of brother, Paul Haire. Mr. Haire, a long time Highland church member, Sunday school teacher, deacon, WWII veteran, and friend of the community, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 1, 2008. The world famous Chuck Wagon Gang will be ministering in concert at Highland Baptist Church on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. No admission charge. A love offering will be taken.

For the past 71 years, the Chuck Wagon Gang has continued to be one of the most popular and cherished gospel groups in the world. Today's group still stands by the tradition of singing the old gospel songs, the old time way, just the way Dad Carter taught.

New Years Eve Watch Night Service to be held on Dec. 31st at 7:00 pm until 12:15 am. Special music by the McGill's and others, special preaching throughout the night.

Reverend David Hutchison was voted in as our new pastor today, November 18, 2007, with 100% of the vote! We would like to welcome David and his wife Carol into our church and their new ministry.

Pastor election will be held this Sunday, November 18, 2007. All Church members are requested to be present for this important election.

A special prayer request has been made from a fellow Christian in regards to a 7 year old girl named Ivory that has been severely injured in an accident. Please click HERE for information.

There will be a Baptism on Sunday, Oct. 7th, at 10:30 am during the morning worship service.

Our Cake Social's have been re-started. Come and join us on the last Sunday of every month, immediately following the evening Worship service. This is a time of good food, fun, and fellowship!

Dora C. Hamilton age 84 of Knoxville passed away September 17, 2007 at Hillcrest North. She worked at Hillcrest North for over 17 years and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: husband: Lawrence (Doc) Hamilton, son: Donnie Hamilton, brother: Davis Simmons, sisters: Cornie Mink, Bessie Patterson, Lucy Wright, Maude Widner, Ola Lynch and Mary Meyers. Survivors: daughter: Marlene Lane, son: Gerald Hamilton, daughter: Anna Dayspring, sister-in-law: Anna Simmons, grandchildren: April, Petey, Dewayne, Brian, Heather and Destiny, 10 great grandchildren. Service 8 pm Wednesday Mynatt Funeral Home Ftn. City, Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Thursday at Liberty Hill Cemetery for interment service at 11 am. Good news from VBS: 5 individuals accepted Christ as their Savior during our Vacation Bible School this week! Praise the Lord!

Several hundred of our brothers and sisters in Christ, gathered together Saturday, July 7th, at Big Ridge State Park for this glorious event.
