What
Is Really Important In Your Life?
Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so
much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
I was talking to someone the other
day and, in the course of our conversation, I invited them to go to
church with me. You know, it’s often comical to listen to some of
the excuses that people can come up with to avoid going to the house
of God. You notice, I said their excuses were comical, but there is
actually nothing comical about seeing a lost soul, or even someone who
is backslid, trying so hard to get away from the Lord.
I realize that we are living in a very fast-paced world where
it seems like we always run out of hours in the day before we run out
of things that have to be done (or at least we think that they have to
be done). One man told me about all the things that he had to get done
before he could even think about taking time out to go to church.
After he got through, I asked him one simple question. “If you died
right here, right now, who would complete all those tasks that you
seem to think are more important than God?” He considered my
question and replied, “I don’t suppose anybody would.”
So, you see, all those things that
people tend to put in front of God (on their list of most important
things in the world) aren’t really as important as they try to think
they are. The fact is that most people could find time to attend
church for nearly every service if they wanted to. I suppose they
honestly think that they don’t need God in their life and most
certainly have no interest in having Him there. If we could only find
a way to get people to realize what a wonderful blessing they are
missing out on by not worshiping and serving God!
It’s not just a matter of whether we go to a building that
we call a church or whether we don’t. What I don’t think most
people ever come to realize in their whole life is that when we
assemble ourselves together in God’s house, we are actually coming
into the very presence of God. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus said, “For
where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the
midst of them.” What
an absolutely marvelous opportunity we are given each time that we
have the privilege to attend church! I am reminded of what the Apostle
Paul wrote to Timothy concerning how people would be in the last days.
In 2Timothy 3:7, Paul said that they would be “Ever
learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
This has probably never been truer than it is today. People have more
education than they have ever had before and yet they don’t seem to
be able to find the simple truth. John 14:6 “Jesus saith
unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto
the Father, but by me.”
I hope that you will find yourself in the house of God
at the next meeting time.
If you are looking for a church where they believe in the
old-fashioned way of worship, I would like to invite you to come and
visit us at Highland Baptist Church. I think you will be glad you did.
